Ep. 89 - Interview: Cat Hollis, Founder of Haymarket Pole

On the prairies of the Midwest, frozen into the shores of Lake Superior, a stripper rose out of the debris of a broken marriage. The founder of HAYMARKET POLE, a Black, multi ethnic, nonbinary femme from a small town, Cat Hollis found refuge in the anonymity of adult entertainment. Now wielding almost decade's worth of experience, advocating for, and building a reputation within the adult entertainment industry… it is this next part of the journey which is most exciting. An accomplished artist and stripper, Cat has been everything from a sailboat deckhand, to a middle school teacher, to a gallery curator and published playwright, to a big booty hoe and workers’ rights advocate. This week we are chatting with the inspiring powerhouse Cat Hollis (@cat.hollis) about: their journey into and experience within SW;  their company Haymarket Pole and the Portland 2020 stripper strike; why they think SW is such a legal battlefield; how to combat burnout; some things that white members of the community can and should be doing to support our fellow POC sex workers; and lots more! Cat Hollis is doing AMAZING things for and within the sex work community so, if you’re able to, go support Cat and HAYMARKET POLE - www.Haymarketpole.com , Cash app & venmo: Pxssycontrol (Episode photo shot by: Adam Patchik, ig @_adamkocka)

About the Podcast

50 Plus a Tip
A podcast for strippers and open minded hoes
“How much is a dance?” Well... it’s “$50 PLUS A TIP!”

Two stripper best friends sharing the highs and (b)lows of their experience in the adult entertainment industry, with some help from special guests along the way.

While harmful, incorrect stigmas sadly surround the sex industry, Danica and Riley trust that using their podcast platform to share their own experiences and give a voice to others along the way, they can give “outsiders” a glimpse of the real world of adult entertainment and show everyone that they can own their sexuality proudly (and sometimes even profit off of it)!

About your host

Profile picture for Danica

Danica

Danica is a sarcastic, straightforward, sex-postive feminist with a passion for topics that some may consider “taboo.” With a psychology degree under her belt, a public speaker/ university guest lecturer, a devoted sex workers advocate and a successful career as an exotic dancer - she knows some stuff!

Danica lives her life by two philosophies: 1) it’s better to have a life of “oh well”s than “what if”s and 2) be unapologetically you! Her years of experience as a sex worker have given her a passion and drive to do what she can to eliminate the dangerous stigma that currently surrounds the sex industry. She is confident that sharing her stories as an active sex worker can do just that - show women (and men) that they can own their sexuality proudly (and sometimes even profit off of it)!
