Ep. 74 - SW Researcher and Ally Tamara O'Doherty (Pt 2/2)

Welcome back to 50 PLUS A TIP Podcast and the SECOND PART of our interview with the SW researcher and SW advocate Tamara O’Doherty. Tamara is a lecturer in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University (the #1 university in Canada for criminology), with several research projects and publications related to the impacts of criminalization, victimization in commercial sex, legal analyses of human trafficking, and other human-rights and knowledge production publications.  The second part of this 2 PART interview we ask Tamara your listener questions: What is this new Canadian Bill proposal concerning porn and what is it’s purpose? Will the government know I’m a stripper if I file for unemployment and dance in clubs? Why is porn legal and not such a legal battleground but prostitution is? Is there an appetite for lawmakers to Decriminalize sex work in our lifetime? Can an unmarried father use a career in SW against you in family law proceedings? What are the legal ramifications if you’re caught doing SW and you have an incurable sti (like HIV undetected)? And can being a SWer hurt your academic career?  It was an absolute pleasure to sit down with Tamara and pick her beautiful brain. We hope you all learned a lot from this TWO PARTER and don’t forget to RATE, REVIEW AND SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast and Spotify.  Have a wonderful week and happy h0e-ing! 💋

About the Podcast

50 Plus a Tip
A podcast for strippers and open minded hoes
“How much is a dance?” Well... it’s “$50 PLUS A TIP!”

Two stripper best friends sharing the highs and (b)lows of their experience in the adult entertainment industry, with some help from special guests along the way.

While harmful, incorrect stigmas sadly surround the sex industry, Danica and Riley trust that using their podcast platform to share their own experiences and give a voice to others along the way, they can give “outsiders” a glimpse of the real world of adult entertainment and show everyone that they can own their sexuality proudly (and sometimes even profit off of it)!

About your host

Profile picture for Danica

Danica

Danica is a sarcastic, straightforward, sex-postive feminist with a passion for topics that some may consider “taboo.” With a psychology degree under her belt, a public speaker/ university guest lecturer, a devoted sex workers advocate and a successful career as an exotic dancer - she knows some stuff!

Danica lives her life by two philosophies: 1) it’s better to have a life of “oh well”s than “what if”s and 2) be unapologetically you! Her years of experience as a sex worker have given her a passion and drive to do what she can to eliminate the dangerous stigma that currently surrounds the sex industry. She is confident that sharing her stories as an active sex worker can do just that - show women (and men) that they can own their sexuality proudly (and sometimes even profit off of it)!
